Didactyl Brothers Salute the Olympics

Guerilla installation

The Dides celebrated the Los Angeles Olympics with this monumental guerilla show in the CalArts Main Gallery. The Dean encountered these life-size figures as he entered in the morning, expecting a girl scout troup to arrive on tour at any moment. Guerilla or not, students' work was sacred. Screens were hastily hauled in to protect both the work and the scouts. The Dean bribed the Brothers to take the show down early by purchasing one work by each of them.

The Didactyl Brothers were an art team composed of Dartaigne (Max) and Daryl (Mark Norris, MFA CalArts). They made impromptu installations and music recordings over more than a fifteen year period, in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and the Mojave Desert. Their work was rapidly executed but often monumental in scale.
