Taking Responsibility for Art
Guerilla installation

While in San Francisco, Max prepared and mailed this participatory work for a big student show at CalArts, and his friends mounted it prominently - although Max was never a registered student. Visitors to the Main Gallery eagerly conspired with the artist to complete this wall-size draw-by-numbers image of the Marlboro Man. At lower left was a magisterial Polaroid snapshot of Max in his Sunday suit at the age of 12. At right was a diagram with instructions for assembly of the panels. Ironically, Max didn't attend the show - he monitored it remotely from San Francisco.
