The Night Skies

The night skies in Foster City suffer the same viewing problems as those in other urbanized areas: the dominance of city lights at night. The moon of course, is visible in its different phases. Fog or low stratus clouds also are a source of interference, especially during the summer months. Some of the major constellations are visible on good viewing nights. The planets can also easily be seen at certain times. All the daily newspapers list rising and setting times for the sun and the moon. The San Francisco Chronicle has a nice daily summary called, In Tonight's Sky, found in the weather section. It lists rising or setting times for the planets.
