Boycott Chinese Goods

by James K. Sayre

Boycott Chinese goods. Back in the late 1990s, when I was researching medicinal herbs for my forthcoming book, Ancient Herbs and Modern Herbs, I was shocked and disgusted to read about several different cases of medicinal herbs from China being adulterated with pharmaceutical drugs.

More recently I have been dismayed at the poor quality of some manufactured goods that have been made in China. The new bathroom scale that I bought just refused to return to "zero" before use in the morning. I never had that problem with any of my old Made-in-USA bathroom scales. Some made-in-China sweatpants that I had purchased never gave up their odd smell, even after a couple of washings. I purchased a cheap annual calender last year, and when I removed the cellophane wrapper, it had a very stong toxic smell. I had to hang it up in the garage; finally, I just left it out there. I purchased two battery rechargers that were made in China, after being unwrapped they had a very toxic odor, so I had to leave them outdoors on the side porch for several days (and spread the toxic pollution into our common air...). I bought a Chinese floor mop at a dollar only store; it had a nice wood handle, but the actual mop was tiny...

Recently news of how the Chinese have produced tainted pet food that has sickened and even killed our cats and dogs was shocking. Then there was tainted human food that was produced in China. And we have been reading about toxic levels of lead being found on toys produced in China. Are the Chinese trying to tell us something?

Boycott Chinese goods.

End.
