NERC, which is headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, is seeking new Independent Trustee candidates for its Board of Trustees.

Did you miss making the cut to qualify as a candidate for the coming California recall election scheduled for 7 October 2003? Maybe you should consider applying to become one of the Independent Trustees of the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC). The recent massive electric power blackout in the northeastern U. S. and parts of neighboring Canada have given us something new to think about. The North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) was created after the massive power blackout in the Northeast in 1965 to coordinate power distribution and to try to ensure that no major disruptions occurred again.

The North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC), which is headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, is seeking new Independent Trustee candidates for its Board of Trustees. To qualify, one cannot be working for any of the North American Electric utilities, nor own any stocks or bonds in these utilities. Otherwise, the Board is seeking persons "with appropriate knowledge and experience of the [electric utility] industry, regulatory, and legal systems in the U. S..." There do not seem to be any other explicit citizenship, age or educational requirements. Anyone who has personally experienced the recent massive power blackout in the northeastern U. S. and parts of neighboring Canada has at least some useful experience. That would mean that there would be about fifty million potential candidates. Of course, it would probably be best to live within an easy commute distance of the NERC headquarters in Princeton, New Jersey. The deadline for application submission is 5 September 2003.
