Oval, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Oval, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. That was the first step in handwriting in about 4th grade with the Peterson Pensmanship System, or some such, back in the early 1950s in elementary school.

Pretty tricky stuff for a lefthander to do with a dip ink pen. This was part of our elementary school education in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania back about fifty-five years ago.

Apparently, the ballpoint pen was making a big splash in post-World War II America, but the trend hadn't reached the elementary school systems at that time. Or maybe the teachers and administrators wanted us to go through the same educational miseries that they had gone through. I guess that dip ink pens had been around for several centuries in various forms...

End.
