Learning to tie shoelaces

by James K. Sayre

When I was about seven, and when we still lived in Ridgewood, New Jersey, I remember my mother trying to teach my younger brother how to tie his shoelaces. He would have been about four years old at the time. This was outside on our front sidewalk, and it must have been spring or summer, because the weather was nice. About that time I learned that there are actually at least two different ways of tying shoelaces, but I had little interest in trying tying the second way, so I soon forgot about it.

End.
