Some of the larger budget motel and hotel chains in the USA include:

Travelodge: Travelodge

Choice Hotels (includes Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Econo Lodge, Quality Inn, Rodeway Inn and other chains), : Choice Hotels

Super 8: Super 9

LaQuinta: La Quinta Inns

Red Roof Inn: Red Roof Inn

Motel 6: Motel 6 (more honestly, it should be called Motel 46...)

Days Inn: Days Inn

Best Western: Best Western

Vagabond Inn: Vagabond Inn

Many of these chains feature free high-speed internet access, a continential breakfast (juice, bagels/muffins, coffee, sometimes fresh fruit) and cable TV. Sometimes you can get a microwave or a mini-frig in the room. Rates are often priced lower in the CSAA/AAA Tour Books than those "bargain" prices listed on web travel links or even the motel chain's own web site. Let the traveller beware...
