Bird Finding Guides

by James K. Sayre

Over fifty years ago, Olin Pettingill wrote and Oxford Press published his two definitive bird finding gudes for the United States:

A Guide to Bird Finding East of the Mississippi, 1951 and its companion:

A Guide to Bird Finding West of the Mississippi, 1953.

These were reprinted by Oxford University Press, New York in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Both of these books are over six hundred pages long and are full of useful information. They also provide a historical context that help us understand the present day in terms of American bird life.

Note: If these books are not available at your local library, you may be able to get them through the inter-library loan (ILL) program for a nominal charge. These books may also be available used at the ABEbooks web site, which has the listings of hundreds of book dealers around the world: ABEbooks search0-**
